Aalborg Industries Inert Gas Systems BV (formerly known as Smit Gas Systems BV), designs, produces and provides service to all types of Inert Gas and Nitrogen Systems for Chemical - and Product Tankers, Crude Oil Carriers, FPSO’s as well as Gas Carriers (LNG and LPG). Since 1960, Aalborg Industries Inert Gas Systems BV has supplied approximately 2.000 Inert Gas installations worldwide of which the majority was for Marine applications.

Smit Gas Systems Oil-fired Inert Gas Generators
The Inert Gas is produced by the combustion of fuel oil with air into a watercooled combustion chamber, in which controlled, complete combustion takes place. The absence of soot is guaranteed at all times.
In combination with a cooler and dryer, these generators are therefore most suitable also for LNG and LPG carriers, where the company has a strong market position.

Smit Gas Systems Membrane type nitrogen generators
This system uses hollow-fibre membranes to separate air into nitrogen and oxygen. The principle is based on the selective permeation of different gases. Compressed air fed into a bundle of membranes leaves this bundle as pure nitrogen, the oxygen being vented.

Smit Gas Systems Flue Inert Gas Systems
The flue Inert Gas System is specifically designed for the exhaust gas from oil-fired boilers and is primarily used onboard crude oil tankers.
