The ISM Code requires that personnel involved in the Ship Management System of a company have sufficient knowledge. To address this issue, HME has developed a dedicated course for technical superintendents. Ensuring that participants can fully comply with the ISM code, the course also offers practical knowledge that helps superintendents in their daily work.
Providing (potential) technical superintendents with knowledge so they can perform their tasks to the best of their ability. Following the course also ensures they comply with ISM obligations.
The six-day course consists of three modules of two days each.
Module 1: Laws and regulations, damages and insurance, docking and repairs
Day one starts with a refresher and update course regarding laws and regulations. The focus is mainly on the new requirements for vessels and crew and the current attention from inspection authorities. The second part covers the various types of damages and insurance, including liability issues.
Day two is focused on every aspect of docking and repairs: requesting and evaluating tenders, preparations, the docking process and the eventual realisation. The insights provided give a sound foundation for superintendents to confidently deal with their regular tasks.
Module 2: Incident investigation
It’s the middle of the night and the phone rings. An incident. Now what? These two course days deal with the entire process from beginning to end. This module is based on real-life examples and involves the following themes: research, evaluation and lessons. At the end of module 2, superintendents are fully prepared for any calamity.
Module 3: Financial maintenance management & communication
Budgeting and managing maintenance costs are also part of the tasks of the superintendent and the fifth day of the course focuses on the basic principles.
Finally, all the elements come together as we zoom in on the role of the superintendent in the entire process. The importance of the various stakeholders is also included, with an emphasis on effective communication. This will lead to a better performance of the Superintendent whitin the Ship Management System.
